Abstract

Cultivating and keeping are human responsibilities toward the Garden of Eden as mentioned in Genesis 2:15. This study aims to explore the deeper meaning of humanity’s responsibility to cultivate and preserve the earth, so that the earth may remain sustained. Through exegetical work, the meaning of “cultivate” and “keep” in Genesis 2:15 will be uncovered and serve as a theological reflection on the current ecological crisis. The exegetical method involves hermeneutics and a historical-critical approach, taking into account the many aspects of life at that time. These findings provide a new and profound biblical understanding of humanity’s attitude toward the earth today.
